On May 4, the second Championship club to earn a place in the English Premier League (EPL) for the 2024/2025 season was confirmed. The lucky team was Ipswich Town.
In the match of the 46th round of the second strongest division of English football, the Blues under the leadership of Kieran McKenna defeated Huddersfield Town with a score of 2-0. With 96 points after 46 rounds, Ipswich claimed the second spot on the table, securing a direct promotion to the EPL for the 2024/2025 season.
This accomplishment means that the Tractor Boys will be playing in the EPL for the first time in 22 years, since the 2001/2002 season when Ipswich finished in 18th place.
The first spot with 97 points went to Leicester City, who earned their promotion ahead of schedule. The third ticket to the top division will be decided through playoff matches between the teams ranking third to sixth (Leeds United, Southampton, West Bromwich Albion, and Norwich City).
