MLS club Inter Miami, where Argentine striker Lionel Messi plays, needs to reduce the salaries of its players as soon as possible, The Athletic reports.
Last season, the Florida-based club failed to make the American League playoffs. Besides Messi, the Inter Miami squad includes Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
The salary cap in MLS is around five million dollars. The club can bring in additional sponsorship revenue, or sell one of its key players to ensure compliance with MLS roster requirements.
It was previously reported that Messi's arrival increased Inter Miami's value by 74%. The club's head coach Gerardo Martino attributed the Argentine's absence in the recent friendly against Hong Kong to a medical decision.
