The President of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino commented on the attack of Marseille fans on Lyon players before the match of the tenth round of the French Ligue 1 on his social networks.
The functionary wrote:
There is absolutely no place for violence in football, on or off the pitch. Such events, like those which occurred in Marseille before the Ligue 1 match between Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais, have no place in our sport nor in our society, and I call on the competent authorities to ensure that appropriate action is taken.
Infantino also added that all players, coaches and fans of football must be safe.
Recall, the fans of Marseille threw stones at the bus with the rivals of their team. Players and members of the coaching staff were injured as a result of the attack. The tenth round match between the teams was postponed.
Marseille is in ninth place in the French league standings with 12 points, Lyon is last (18th place) with three points.
