Spanish national team footballer Jennifer Hermoso has assessed the impact of the incident with the kiss from former RFEF head Luis Rubiales after the final of the Women's World Cup.
In August 2023, Spain won the Women's World Cup for the first time, beating England by a minimum score. After the match, Rubiales kissed Hermoso during the awards ceremony, for which he was later suspended from managing Spanish football.
AS quotes Hermoso as saying:
It has changed a lot of things for me. Football-wise and personally I've been able to change a lot, but it has made me a stronger girl. I'm proud of everything I've done and will continue to do. It's been a long, hard process, of understanding a lot of things, of getting to know others.
Jennifer had previously admitted that she received threats after the incident. Sergio Ramos, commenting on what happened, called Rubiales' behavior unacceptable.
