Head coach of Argentina Lionel Scaloni spoke about the game of the national team forward Lionel Messi in the second round of the group stage match of the World Cup 2022 with Mexico.
The meeting ended with Argentina's 2-0 victory. Messi scored a goal and gave an assist. He was named the best player of the match.
Our 'ten' decided the outcome of the game. The whole team stands behind Messi, everyone supports him. We know we have the best player in the world. I think even the Mexican fans enjoyed his game despite the fact that he scored for them.
Lionel Scaloni, quoted by Mundo Deportivo
The goal against the Mexicans was Messi's eighth at the World Cup tournaments. This score is equal to the 1986 World Champion Argentina's Diego Maradona's. Only Gabriel Batistuta scored more than any Argentinian player at the World Cup - 10 goals.
