According to ESPN, the club season for central midfielder of La Liga team Barcelona, Frenkie de Jong, has ended early due to an injury. However, the midfielder still has a chance to play at the Euro 2024 championship.
On April 21, 26-year-old de Jong suffered an ankle injury in the 32nd round match of the Spanish championship against Real Madrid (2-3) and left the field on a stretcher, being replaced by Pedri. The recovery timeline for the Dutch player is unknown. It is also unclear whether de Jong will be able to return for the Netherlands' first match at Euro 2024, where the Oranje will play against Poland.
During the 2023/2024 season, the midfielder played 20 matches in La Liga, scoring two goals. He also played five matches in the Champions League. De Jong's contract with Barcelona runs until the end of June 2026. According to Transfermarkt, the player's market value is 70 million euros.
