Argentinian football manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has previously coached Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, has reportedly accepted an offer to lead the US national team, according to The Athletic.

On July 21, the Mirror reported that the 52-year-old coach has a potential job lined up with English club Newcastle, in the event that current manager Eddie Howe is invited to take over the England national team.

In mid-July 2024, the US Soccer Federation (USSF) officially announced the departure of head coach Gregg Berhalter, under whose guidance the US team failed to reach the playoff stage of the home Copa America 2024. On July 12, it was reported that the US national team would not be led by German coach Jürgen Klopp, the former manager of Liverpool.

In addition to Chelsea, Pochettino has also managed Espanyol, Southampton, and Tottenham Hotspur. He led Tottenham to the UEFA Champions League final in the 2018/2019 season, and during his time with Paris Saint-Germain, he secured victory in the French league (2021/2022), the national cup (2020/2021), and the super cup (2020).
