The Uruguayan national team failed to qualify for the World Cup playoffs for the first time since 2006, finishing third in Group H of the tournament in Qatar.
Uruguay defeated the national team of Ghana on December 2 in the third round of the group stage match at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which ended with a score of 2-0. Midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta scored a double for the winners.
Despite the win, Uruguay finished third in the group with four points. Portugal, with six points, is in first place in the playoffs. South Korea, with four points and the best extra values, finished second. Ghana, with three points, closed Group H.
