The press service of the International Football Federation (FIFA) has officially announced a ban on the sale of alcoholic beer in stadiums during the matches of the FIFA World Cup.
The New York Times previously reported that due to the Qatari royal family's decision to restrict the sale of beer in stadiums during the 2022 World Cup, FIFA's $75 million contract with the Bud beer brand will be in danger.
Following discussions between the Qatari authorities and FIFA, it was decided to concentrate the sale of alcoholic beverages at the Fan Festival, other fan recreation areas and licensed establishments, removing beer outlets from the perimeter of Qatar's World Cup 2022 stadiums.
FIFA statement
It is specified that non-alcoholic beer won't fall under the ban and will be sold in stadiums during the matches of the World Cup 2022.
The Qatari World Cup starts next Sunday, November 20 with the match between the teams of Qatar and Ecuador at 4 p.m. GMT.
