The International Football Association (FIFA) has fined the Serbian Football Union for hanging a flag that includes the territory of the Republic of Kosovo in the national team's locker room during the 2022 World Cup.

According to the Associated Press agency, the incident took place before the first round of the group stage match where Serbia lost to Brazil (0-2). The flag was noticed by the Football Federation of Kosovo, who filed a complaint to FIFA. Thus, the Serbian Football Union was fined 20,000 Swiss francs.

It should also be noted that sanctions were also imposed on the Croatian Football Union for chanting obscene slogans and displaying inappropriate banners during a group stage game against Canada (4-1).

Recall that the Serbian national team, after scoring only one point over three rounds of group stage, took fourth place in Group G and left the tournament, and Croatia with five points entered the playoff round from second place in Group F. In the round of 16, the Croats were stronger than Japan in a penalty shootout (0-0, 3-1 on penalties).
