Fenerbahce published a statement after the boycott of the match for the Turkish Super Cup, which ended early because the "Yellow Canaries" left the field at the very beginning of the game.
Recall that in the first minute Galatasaray player Mauro Icardi scored a goal. Thus, they won the trophy. Fenerbahce's lineup had only their youth academy players.
The statement says:
Serving Turkish sports with its 117-year history not only in football but in every branch we compete in, [with] thousands of trophies in its museum bearing the traces of sweat and labour. Feeling the national values of his country with his 30 million fans. As the world's largest sports club, we will continue to stand tall today and tomorrow, as we did yesterday.
On March 19, Fenerbahce's management said they intended to consider switching championships amid a mass brawl in an away match against Trabzonspor (3-2). In April, the club said it would boycott Turkish Cup matches.
