In the 2022/23 season, the Dutch football club Twente earned more money from selling food and beer in the stands than from player transfers.
According to the team's financial report, the revenue from feeding match-goers amounted to €10.5 million, while the profit from transfers amounted to €6.4 million.
"I haven't seen a club make more money from beer than from transfers anywhere else in Europe," commented Dutch journalist Tom Knipping.
Twente became the Dutch champion in the 2009/10 season and won the Dutch Cup three times (1976/77, 2000/01 and 2010/11). Last season the club from Enschede took fourth place in the top division, and is in third place after 12 games of the current season.
