Former French national team player Emmanuel Petit commented on the performance of forward Kylian Mbappe at the Euro 2024.
Petit told RMC Sport:
Is it the role of a captain to point out the shortcomings of his teammates? I remember his statements before the Euro, where he said 'I care more about my mental strength than my physical strength'. But mentally you were lacking, physically you were lacking, and in your role as captain, you were lacking. For me, he was an unworthy captain.
The French team lost to Spain in the semi-final of Euro 2024 with a score of 1-2, ending their tournament.
In the current Euro Championship, Mbappe took 24 shots on goal and had 46 touches in the opponents' penalty area, but failed to score a single goal in regular time, only scoring from a penalty kick.
