The Croatian national team defeated Brazil in a penalty shootout in the quarterfinal match of the World Cup in Qatar. The main time of the match ended with a score of 0-0, so two additional halves of 15 minutes were appointed to determine the winner.
At the end of the first one, Brazilian striker Neymar scored off an assist from Lucas Paquet. The goal was Neymar's 77th as a member of the national team, equaling Pelé's record. Three minutes into the second extra half, the Croats got back into the game thanks to an accurate shot by Petković.
In the penalty shoot-out the Croatian national team players were more accurate, as they realized all of their 11-meter attempts. Croatian goalkeeper Levaković saved one shot.
