British journalist of Standard Sport Nizaar Kinsella, who specializes on Chelsea, has told Telecom Asia Sport his opinion on the transfer of Mykhailo Mudryk and commented on the big spending of the London club.
- Is €100 million from Chelsea for Mudryk a fair price?
- In my opinion, it's clearly too much. I think it was influenced by the rivalry between Chelsea and Arsenal. Both clubs fought for Mudryk until the end, and Chelsea decided to finally outbid their rival. But I should say straight away that I do not follow Shakhtar and have little knowledge of Mudryk's game. That said, I have no expectations. If he plays well, I can only be happy.
Of course, the transfer fee is confusing. Most recently, Chelsea gave 68 million for Marc Cucurella, who has not yet justified the money spent on him. They gave even more for Mudryk, so we, the Chelsea fans, will pray for him to prove himself. His age is good, his contract is signed for a long time.
However, it would be a problem if Mudryk fails. Then it will be difficult to sell him, let alone recover the transfer fee.
- Chelsea have spent around €400 million on transfers in six months. What do you think about it?
- Even more than €400 million. This is a record for the money spent in a season. All this suggests that the management of the club wants to rebuild the team, to strengthen the squad as much as possible. Most of the players who were at the club before the restructuring, will most likely leave. Although I didn't think we would ever spend more than in the era of Roman Abramovich. But it's good that they are buying young players: Mudryk is 22, Badiashile and Fofana are 21 each. Let's see what happens in the near future. A lot will depend on the team's results. If Chelsea don't qualify for the Champions League zone, it will be a failure, - Kinsella said.
Donetsk Shakhtar received €70 million for the midfielder, the Ukrainian club can earn another €30 million in bonuses for certain achievements of Mudryk at Chelsea.
