Bild has reported that La Liga club Real Madrid is interested in acquiring Rodri, a midfielder from Premier League team Manchester City and the Spanish national team, a Euro 2024 champion and the winner of the Ballon d'Or.
According to the reports, Real Madrid officials have shown serious interest in the midfielder of the Citizens; however, the 28-year-old defensive player does not intend to leave Manchester City.
In the 2024/2025 season, Rodri has only played two matches in the Premier League and one in the Champions League, with no notable contributions. He missed a significant portion of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament tear and a lengthy recovery. Rodri's current contract with City runs until the end of June 2027, and Transfermarkt estimates the Spaniard at 130 million euros.
In November 2024, Rodri expressed his desire to resume his playing career in the current season to the BBC.
On March 19, in an interview with Le Parisien, Real Madrid forward and 2014 World Champion Kylian Mbappe stated that he does not consider Rodri to be a player at the Ballon d'Or level.
