As reported by Bild, the assistant coach of the Germany national football team Sandro Wagner caused a scandal in the referee's room after the quarter-final match of the Euro 2024 championship against the Spain team.
According to sources, the 36-year-old coach was displeased with the performance of referee Anthony Taylor, who did not award a penalty to Spain for a handball violation by Spanish defender Marc Cucurella. In addition to insults towards the English official, Wagner had heated exchanges with other members of the refereeing crew.
The match took place on July 5 in Stuttgart and ended with Julian Nagelsmann's team losing in extra time with a score of 2-1. Thus, the Spanish national team advanced to the semi-finals, where they will face France, while the "Nationalmannschaft" ended their campaign at the home Euro.
Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz expressed his support for the national team after their defeat and exit from the tournament, mentioning that the country is still proud of its footballers.
