Barcelona are looking to replace Polish striker Robert Lewandowski with Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, as reported by The Sun.
According to the source, the leadership of the Catalan club has marked the Uruguayan as one of their key transfer targets for the upcoming summer. Barcelona aim to reduce expenses on the main squad and may part ways with the highly paid Polish forward.
Lewandowski has been playing for the Spanish powerhouse since the summer of 2022, with his contract running until 2026. This season, the Pole has featured in 45 matches for Barcelona across all competitions, scoring 24 goals and providing 9 assists.
Nunez has played 51 matches for Liverpool in the current season across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and contributing with 13 assists. The player's contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of June 2028. The Uruguayan footballer is estimated at 70 million euros according to Transfermarkt.
Journalist Aaron Dominguez previously mentioned on social media that Barcelona intend to extend Lewandowski's contract with a reduction in salary.
