Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will undergo surgery on Monday due to a knee injury, according to the club's official social media page.
On Sunday, the Catalans beat Villarreal 5-1 in the sixth round of the Spanish championship. Ter Stegen was injured in the third added minute of the first half and had to leave the field on a stretcher, he was replaced by Iñaki Peña.
Medical examination showed the 32-year-old goalkeeper has a patellar tendon rupture of the right knee. More information on recovery time will be revealed after the surgery.
This season, ter Stegen played seven matches for Barcelona, conceding seven goals and keeping one clean sheet. The footballer has been playing for the club since 2014, last summer the Blaugrana extended his contract until 2028.
