Diego Simeone's team will be the eleventh European team to compete in the 2025 Club World Championship, earning 50 million euros for their participation. On April 16, Atletico ended their Champions League campaign at the quarter-final stage, losing to Borussia Dortmund over two legs (2-4 away, 2-1 at home).
The tournament will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the USA. 32 clubs will participate, divided into eight groups of four teams each. From UEFA, teams that have already qualified for the playoffs are: Real Madrid (La Liga, Spain), Manchester City, Chelsea (Premier League, England), Inter, Juventus (Serie A, Italy), Bayern, Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga, Germany), Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1, France), Porto, and Benfica (Primeira Liga, Portugal).
