English Premier League club Manchester City has informed the entourage of forward Erling Haaland and the Norwegian national team about the need to begin negotiations for extending his agreement in the summer of 2024.
According to AS, the "Sky Blues" are aware that the 23-year-old forward wants to move to Real Madrid in the near future. Therefore, City's management aims to draft a new contract that would tighten the conditions for Haaland's transfer to Real. Currently, the Norwegian's agreement includes a release clause that allows non-English teams to acquire him at an affordable price by summer 2024.
During the 2023/2024 season, Haaland scored 27 goals and provided five assists in 31 Premier League matches. He also scored six times and assisted once in nine Champions League games. The forward's current deal with City expires at the end of June 2027. Haaland's market value stands at 180 million euros according to Transfermarkt.
On May 9, the Premier League press office announced that Haaland is one of the contenders for the league's best young player award. Earlier, on May 5, the striker told the BBC that he is unconcerned about the opinion of former Ireland national team midfielder and coach Roy Keane, who had labeled Haaland as a second-tier player.
