Bayer Leverkusen's head coach, Xabi Alonso, has made the decision to leave the club at the end of the current season, despite having a contract that runs until the summer of 2026.

According to Sport.es, citing Eurosport, Alonso is seeking to lead a more ambitious project that will enable him to participate regularly in European competitions.

Currently, Alonso is considering two options to further his coaching career. His top choice is Real Madrid, whose president, Florentino Perez, has shown significant interest in the 42-year-old coach.

However, Alonso is also keeping the possibility of joining Bayern Munich, as the German club has expressed interest in his candidacy.

During his time as coach of the German club, Alonso won the Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season, as well as the German Cup and the German Super Cup.

Previously, Relevo reported that Bayer’s management is preparing for Alonso's potential move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2025.
