AL Ahly’s South African forward Percy Tau has reiterated that the club’s ambition is to defend their CAF Champions League title, and clinch a record extending 12th African title. Tau says Ahly is always driven by ambition, and the trophy they won last year is behind their backs and the focus is on another one.
What we did last season is nothing and we still want to win the Champions League this season. That is our intention and ambition and we are very clear on that as a club. At Ahly, we want to win every trophy that we compete in. That is what is required of us every time we step on the pitch.
Tau said, speaking to Telecomasia.net
He spoke in the team’s final training session before facing Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC in the first leg of the second preliminary round tie in Nairobi.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion man said they expect a tough match from the Kenyan champions, but reckons they have a good strategy to win away from home.
They are a good side and definitely will have a good support in their backyard. But we are clear in our intention to come here and try to win so that we have a better second leg at home.
Percy Tau
Kenya’s Gor Mahia are looking to curve into the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in 32 years.
