Max Verstappen, the 26-year-old Dutch Formula 1 driver and three-time champion of Red Bull, is under investigation by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
The inquiry stems from his apparent disregard for the virtual safety car protocol following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
According to team radio communications, Lando Norris pointed out that Verstappen was overtaking other drivers while the virtual safety car was still active, specifically while witnessing Verstappen pass several cars at the end of the race.
The virtual safety car condition was initiated after a collision between Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz on the penultimate lap of the race.
Verstappen ultimately finished in fifth place, while Norris secured fourth and recorded the fastest lap.
Earlier, Australian driver Oscar Piastri from McLaren won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
