Reigning and three-time champion of Formula 1 (2021-2023), Dutch driver of the team Oracle Red Bull Racing Max Verstappen commented on rumors about a possible move to Mercedes AMG Petronas F-1 Team.
This possibility was first reported by SoyMotor on April 26. As reported on April 29, Austrian news agency OE24, representatives of the 26-year-old Verstappen will hold talks with the German team on a possible transition before the upcoming U.S. Grand Prix in Miami (May 3-5). The Dutchman will reportedly be offered a multi-year contract with an annual salary of €150 million per year including bonuses.
Verstappen is quoted by RMC Sport as saying:
My future is within Red Bull at the moment. The contract for €150 million? It's not true. But at the end of the day, even if let's say that would be the case, €150 million.... money is not going to be the differentiator for me to go somewhere. I'm happy with what I'm earning already, it's about performance.
After five rounds of the 2024 Formula One season, Verstappen is in first place in the individual standings, having won four out of five races and scored 110 points.
