Danish driver Kevin Magnussen from the Haas F1 Team has made history by being automatically disqualified from a Grand Prix due to accumulating too many penalty points.
After receiving ten seconds of penalties and two penalty points from the stewards at the recently concluded Italian Grand Prix for making contact with Alpine driver Pierre Gasly, Magnussen has now reached a total of 12 penalty points within the last 365 days, resulting in an automatic disqualification.
As a result, Magnussen will not be competing in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The American team has Pietro Fittipaldi as a reserve driver. It is also noted that the team may nominate their future driver Oliver Bearman, although he would then have to miss a round of Formula 2.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place from September 13 to 15, 2024, and will be part of the 24 races in the new season.
Charles Leclerc, a 26-year-old Ferrari driver from Monaco, claimed victory at the Italian Grand Prix.
