The Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA) released an official statement criticizing the current President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
The athletes expressed their discontent with the fines imposed on their colleagues for using foul language when interacting with journalists after races.
It is important to recall that on November 2, Scuderia Ferrari's Charles Leclerc from Monaco received a fine of €10,000 following the Mexican Grand Prix.
Earlier, on September 20, reigning world champion Max Verstappen from Oracle Red Bull Racing was penalized with "community service."
Drivers urged Ben Sulayem to "consider his own tone and language when talking to our member drivers, or indeed about them, whether in a public forum or otherwise.." Additionally, the GPDA called for an open and transparent dialogue between all parties involved (drivers, team leadership, and FIA) and for the abolition of the fine policy.
The 62-year-old former Emirati rally driver and businessman has led the FIA since December 2021, succeeding Jean Todt as head of the organization.
