Sydney Thunder beat Brisbane Heat by 9 runs in an important contest. Thunder batted first and compiled 162 runs. Heat remained in the chase for most of the game but couldn’t get it done.

Veteran Johnson digs in

Sammy Jo-Johnson played a wonderful hand after getting a promotion to the opening slot. Smriti Mandhana and Sammy added 58 runs and then Phoebe Litchfield also joined her for a 52 runs partnership. Jo-Johnson made 52 runs in 38 balls, Smriti made 29 runs while Phoebe put up 24. Deepti Sharma played an important knock of 24 to finish things off. Jonassen, de Klerk, Sippel, and Hancock took a wicket each.

Cracking start wasted

One of the most in-form opening pairs in Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne continued their superb connection. The pair fired for 99 runs and both players reached half-centuries. However, once Harris fell the team rolled over and lost the next nine wickets for just 51 runs. Harris made 50 but Redmayne compiled 54 runs. Deepti Sharma, Samatha Bates and Hannah Darlington claimed two wickets each while Sammy took one in what looked like a surefire win for the Heat.
