Seamer Pat Cummins will lead Australia’s side during the Ashes with Steve Smith made as the vice-captain. The decision came after Tim Paine stepped down as the skipper and has taken a break from cricket due to him getting punished for some expletive texts he sent back in 2017 or so. The Ashes will begin on the eighth of December.
I am honoured to accept this role ahead of what will be a massive Ashes summer. I hope I can provide the same leadership Tim has given the group in the past few years. With Steve and I as captains, a number of very senior players in this squad, and some great young talent coming through we are a strong and tightly-knit group.
