Cuban boxer Erislandy Lara, the WBA middleweight champion, stated that he is not thinking about retirement despite his age.

On September 15, Lara will defend his title against American boxer Danny Garcia at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

Lara told reporters after an open training session:

I feel I’ve accomplished a lot in this sport, and a win against Danny Garcia will add another significant triumph to my record against a former world champion. I’ve fought the best and have never turned down an opportunity to face anyone. My goal is to one day be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and I’m going to keep working hard to achieve it.

The 41-year-old Lara last fought in March 2024, winning by knockout in the second round against Michael Zerafa. His professional record stands at 30 wins (18 by knockout), three losses, and three draws.

Danny Garcia, 36 years old, last fought in July 2022, where he won a majority decision against Jose Benavidez. He holds a record of 37 wins (21 by knockout) and three losses.
