Japanese boxer Naoya Inoue, the world's undisputed super-bantamweight champion, has announced his intention to try his hand in the featherweight category.
The Ring quotes Inoue as saying:
I'm sure these three fights will take place at super bantamweight. My move up to featherweight will depend on how I and my body feel next year. I always want to show the best Naoya Inoue. I wouldn't decide to start fighting at featherweight or super featherweight just because the money is good.
Recall that Inoue is scheduled to fight Luis Nery on May 6 in Tokyo, Japan.
30-year-old Inoue last entered the ring against Marlon Tapales in December 2023 in Tokyo. In that fight, Naoya won by knockout in the tenth round. He has 26 wins (23 by knockout) and no losses. Nery, 29, has 35 wins (27 by knockout) and one loss.
