Former light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev told Telecomasia.net in an exclusive interview that he wants to face Saul Alvarez in a rematch, even if it means not getting paid.
My dream fight? It’s Canelo, a rematch with him. When I came into that fight… After the seventh round, I sat in the corner and told my trainer, 'Buddy (McGirt), I'm empty as a drum. I have nothing left to hit with.' I couldn't take responsibility and pull out of the fight. Buddy made a mistake; he should have withdrawn me. But I went the distance. In the 11th round, I got KOd. I had no strength left. That's why I want a rematch with Canelo.
It's worth recalling that Kovalev faced Saul Alvarez less than two and a half months after defeating Anthony Yarde. In the match against the Mexican, Kovalev lost by knockout in the 11th round.
