Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, has voiced strong opposition to the idea of Mike Tyson making a return to the boxing ring. Tyson is scheduled to fight Jake Paul on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
I'm lucky enough to have a business where we don't need to do that, and I will never do that. Anyone who thinks (Tyson) should be in the ring right now either doesn't have his best interests at heart or is an idiot. Mike Tyson left the sport of boxing – which was, what, 20 years ago. I don't know, something like that. He was shot to pieces.
“You honestly think a fighter who was shot to pieces 20 years ago should now be coming back? I mean, I know he is only fighting Jake Paul, but it doesn't matter. Jake Paul's a powerful kid. He trains everyday,” he added.
Tyson last stepped into the ring against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match in November 2020, which went the full distance and ended in a draw. He has a record of 50 wins (44 by knockout) and six losses.
Jake Paul last fought in July 2024, winning by technical knockout against Mike Perry in the sixth round. He has a boxing record of ten wins (seven by knockout) and one loss.
