Former WBC light heavyweight champion Grigory Drozd spoke exclusively to Telecomasia.net, commenting on the victory of Russian boxer Bakhram Murtazaliev over Australian fighter Tim Tszyu in the IBF world championship fight in the junior middleweight division.

Timofey was not ready to handle a critical situation where his opponent wasn’t afraid to stand firmly against his punches and hit back. Moreover, Tszyu himself found himself on the canvas. Tim didn’t know how to respond or control the situation. This is understandable, given that he previously lacked that experience,” Drozd explained.

Tszyu clearly has issues. People have always seen it. Timofey lacks technical skills and defense, which became evident in this fight. He thought that Murtazaliev would be intimidated and fold under his punches, but Murtazaliev is a very good boxer with a sharp, powerful punch and a strong character. Tszyu chose the wrong distance. He moved in close without throwing punches, putting himself in danger, and didn’t know how to respond. He kept getting hit, trying to outpunch Murtazaliev but ended up taking more shots. His approach was immature, lacking analysis. His right arm was hanging, and he was getting hit from his left side. There were many issues, and most importantly, he didn’t understand what to do. He didn't use any footwork at all. I don’t remember him moving well. Without footwork, it’s tough – he approached, stood there, and couldn’t escape. He had all sorts of problems.

“He faced a strong boxer, a world champion, and their positions became clear. It is a bit of an issue, but everything can be fixed. He needs to learn how to move, defend himself, and improve his style as soon as possible. It was a great fight, very exciting. When I saw Egis Klimas in Murtazaliev’s corner, I knew he was all set. He has an eye for stars, for fighters who can reach great heights. I congratulate all boxing fans on this fantastic old-school show. I wish Timofey good luck in addressing his mistakes, and I congratulate Bakhram on his beautiful victory,” Drozd further said.

It’s worth noting that the fight between Murtazaliev and Tszyu took place on the night of October 20 and ended in a decisive victory for the reigning IBF champion. The match lasted three rounds, during which Tszyu was knocked down four times. Tszyu's team ultimately pulled him out of the fight as he was on the brink of a fifth knockdown.

As a result, the undefeated Bakhram Murtazaliev claimed his 23rd career victory, with 17 of those wins coming by way of knockout. Tim Tszyu has a record of 24 wins (17 by knockout) and two losses.
