Famous promoter Oscar De La Hoya has addressed the threat made by Puerto Rican boxer Edgar Berlanga to punch him upon their next encounter. Berlanga is set to face Mexican fighter Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the ring on September 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Previously, De La Hoya questioned Berlanga's Puerto Rican heritage, which prompted an aggressive response from the boxer.

De La Hoya stated in an interview with the YouTube channel Fight Hub TV:

You said you’re going to slap me when you see me next. Why? Because I asked to see your Puerto Rican birth certificate because you’re not really Puerto Rican. Or are you upset because I said you’re a subpar opponent for Canelo? These are the facts, bro. Don’t let them get you rattled.

Canelo's last fight was against Jaime Munguia in May of this year, where he won by unanimous decision after going the full distance. His record now stands at 61 wins (39 by knockout), two losses, and two draws.

Berlanga last fought against Padraig McCrory in February of this year, winning that match by technical knockout in the sixth round. His professional record includes 22 wins (17 by knockout) and no losses.
