American undefeated boxer David Benavidez explained why his fight with undisputed world champion in the second middleweight division Saul Alvarez has not yet taken place.

Benavidez said in an interview with YouTube channel MILLION DOLLAZ WORTH OF GAME:

They [WBC] made me the mandatory, but I don’t know why they’re not pressing the issue like they should. Canelo is the cash cow. These sanctioning fees, the WBC, IBF, WBA, and WBO, they all get a percentage. So because Canelo is making so much money, he’s giving each of these 3%. They’re probably walking away with $2 million each. So because of that, they’re letting him do whatever he wants to do, which is not alright for me. He’s picking the easiest fights and then he’s saving me until last.

Benavidez will next fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on the night of June 16 in Las Vegas for the interim WBC light heavyweight title. David defeated Demetrius Andrade by technical knockout in November 2023.

Benavidez has 28 wins (24 by knockout) and no losses on his record.

Alvarez last entered the ring against Jaime Munguia in May of this year. That fight lasted the entire distance and ended in favor of Saul by unanimous decision. He has 61 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws.
