2024 Olympic boxing champion from Algeria, Imane Khelif, has stated that she has not seen any documentation indicating her having a male chromosome.
Khelif remarked that she has not reviewed the documents following her exclusion by the Russian-led International Boxing Association (IBA). She also mentioned that she was only asked to sign a document stating that she would not participate in competitions.
Helif was quoted as saying by Rai:
We, along with the Algerian Boxing Federation, opposed this decision and filed an appeal. After the appeal, we realized there was no longer any trust in the IBA.
Previously, journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia published a revealing report on social media regarding the Algerian athlete Imane’s failure in a gender test.
The 25-year-old Khelif became an Olympic champion at the Games held this year in Paris, France. In the finals of the boxing competition in the 66 kg weight category, Imane secured victory against Chinese representative Yang Liu.
Khelif first participated in the World Championship in 2018, where she finished in 17th place after losing in the first round to Kazakh athlete Karina Ibragimova.
