The NBA leadership has implemented a new rule in light of the recent scandal involving suspended basketball player Jontay Porter, according to reports from Legion Hoops.
The league has requested that sportsbooks avoid including players with two-way or 10-day contracts in their betting lines.
Initially, it was reported that the former Toronto Raptors big man was involved in betting from 2021 to 2023. However, the sportsbook did not accept any bets from Jontay while he was a player in the Development League. It later emerged that Jontay had shared confidential health information with an individual whom he knew was placing bets on the NBA.
That person placed a parlay bet on Jontay's poor performance of approximately $80,000 at an online sportsbook, which resulted in a winnings total of $1.1 million. And finally, the player himself placed the bet against the Toronto Raptors, dealing a final blow to his career.
