Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon says she targets to finish her season on an emphatic note, after clinching her fifth Diamond Trophy in Brussels. Kipyegon, also the world record holder in her traditional 1500m race, set a new meet record of 3:54.75, edging out Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji.
Speaking to Telecomasia.net after her imperious run in Brussels, Kipyegon said she has her eyes set on the massive pay purse from the Athlos event set for New York City, on September 26.
That will be my last race of the season and I am really excited for it. It is a great event and a historic one for women in athletics and it is such an honour to be part of it. Definitely, I want to go out there and win to complete my season in style.
Kipyegon, also a double World Champion, said
The Athlos event, in its inaugural edition, will bring together top women athletes in six disciplines, with a massive prize purse of 60,000 USD for the winners. It will be staged at the Icahn Sstadium.
Meanwhile, Kipyegon remains excited at her fifth Diamond Trophy.
It is a dream for me and a massive achievement. I am delighted to have won and overall, I am happy with how my season has gone.
