Yesterday, in the first of a three-game home stand, the Nuggets bench were spectacular as the teams exchanged the lead 16 times and tied eight times. Down by fifteen points early in the second quarter, the Nuggets rallied to fight on until the latter stages of the game but a tough Celtics defense and a Jayson Tatum-led offense ultimately ensured that Nuggets fell and dropped to 10-7 at home. Russell Westbrook led the Nuggets with 26 points and eight turnovers while Michael Porter Jr. added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Julian Strawther scored 19 points from the bench, supported by 14 from Payton Watson in a day of excellent contributions from the bench.

The Los Angeles Clippers (20-16) are 7th in the Western Conference standings. Over the yuletide period, Clippers won three straight games but have lost that momentum and have dropped three of four since New Year’s Day. They beat the Atlanta Hawks 131-105 on Sunday in the only home game in that run. Norman Powell continues to lead the scoring for the Clippers, scoring 25 points as they slumped to a 108-106 defeat at the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday evening. James Harden made 22 points and Ivica Zubac added 17 points and 16 rebounds. Kawhi Leonard recorded eight points, two rebounds, and two assists in 20 minutes as he continued to ease back into the proceedings.
