Telkomsel, Indonesia's largest mobile operator, has signed ZTE to supply equipment for an LTE trial.

ZTE, which already supplies 3G gear to Telkomsel, said it would provide an SDR solution to allow for a smooth upgrade from 2G and 3G.

The Chinese vendor says it has been working on the Telkomsel project since August.

ZTE’s LTE team, which has 4,000 R&D staff, has now won supplied seven commercial LTE networks and supplied more than 50 trial networks worldwide, recently winning a GSM/3G/LTE deal with Telenor Hungary.

One of its key Asian customers, Hong Kong CSL, aims to launch a dual-cell HSPA+/LTE service in late 2010 or early 2011, a spokesperson told telecomasia.net.
