ZTE has used Mobile World Congress 2017 to launch an end-to-end public cloud rich communications services (RCS) platform for mobile operators.

The new solution is designed to help small and midsized mobile operators and MVNOs rapidly deploy cloud-based RCS services at a low cost.

Operators will be able to deploy RCS using a variety of business models, including service lease, service purchase and revenue share.

The platform enhances traditional call services to support VoIP, VoWiFi and multi-party audio or video calling, and enhances SMS and MMS functions to support instant messaging, group chat, messaging video as well as file and location sharing

The platform supports interconnection between operators including international branches, and can connect with others' private RCS platforms through an RCS hub. It is also designed to achieve interconnection between different equipment vendors.

In order to further assure interoperability, the solution also opens standard APIs and SDKs to both upstraem and downstream players.

At the event, ZTE also demonstrated the industry's first RCS set-top box - using RCS as the foundation for a smart home configuration – and announced a cooperation with VoIP provider Voipswitch to introduce more functionalities and customizability to RCS.
