Chinese vendor ZTE has launched a global recruitment drive for telecom talent as part of its international expansion plans.

The Shenzhen-based vendor plans to launch an international campus recruitment program in late 2009 which will include universities in the US, France, Mexico, Colombia and Ethiopia.

ZTE said that the initiative would “help inject fresh thinking and talent into ZTE from major regions in the world, accelerating its internationalization process to meet growing market demand.”

The vendor recently held a ceremony at Xi’an Jiaotong University in China to launch a drive to tap talent from more than 40 Chinese campuses. ZTE claims that it is the first Chinese vendor endeavor to actively recruit university students globally. In 2008, local employees accounted for 65% of ZTE’s overseas workforce.

Earlier in the year, ZTE conducted a pilot overseas recruitment campaign, hiring university graduates in India, Indonesia and other countries.

ZTE operates in over 140 countries and has 107 branches worldwide. Last year overseas business provided 60% of sales.
