ZTE announced it has contributed technology to an Open Networking Foundation radio backhaul SDN proof of concept test by the Open Networking Foundation (ONF).

ZTE supplied a 5G-oriented platform device that supports service-sensing wireless power management.

The technology is capable of dynamically decreasing the transmit power on the air interface while traffic is light to reduce power consumption and frequency interference.

In addition, ZTE took responsibility for developing the Ethernet service re-routing application for the proof-of-concept for transmission service protection.

The application performs service path re-routing in cases of air interface bandwidth failing to satisfy service requirements due to environment deterioration.

ONF has held several SDN proof of concept tests since last year, with the most recent being held in Germany with Deutsche Telekom.

The latest test involved microwave applications based on the ONF TR532 model, Precision Timing Protocol (PTP) applications based on ITU-T G.8275.1, and Ethernet service applications based on the ONF CoreModel.
