ZTE, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, and leading telecoms provider, VimpelCom, will launch the commercial virtual evolved packet core (vEPC) network in Kyrgyzstan and Laos in February. Following these two markets, VimpelCom plans to introduce the fully virtualized network in Uzbekistan, Armenia, and Tajikistan, in the course of 2016.

“ZTE will support VimpelCom in the network virtualization development to deliver even better service experience to telecom’s customers,” said Liu Jianhua, chief executive officer at ZTE's core network product line. “ZTE will create innovative new technology, promote the maturation of virtualized networks and lead the transformation of the telecom industry.”

Prior to the commercial launch of vEPC, ZTE developed and completed rigorous vEPC system tests in three phases from June to December of 2015. The ZTE vEPC network successfully passed all testing, including measuring 2G, 3G and 4G functions, interconnection verifications, virtualization features, system redundancy and recovery, system capacity and pressure and long-term stability.
The launch of the vEPC network will enhance VimpelCom users’ 2G/3G/4G network experience, in addition to reducing total cost of ownership of the network and guaranteed carrier-class system redundancy and stability.

ZTE is committed to playing a leading role in the development of network virtualization technologies globally, building strategic partnerships with other technology providers on testing and verification to accelerate industry deployment. To date, ZTE’s virtualized core network solutions including Cloud UniCore, are deployed in 12 commercial and 32 trial projects globally.
