ZTE said it has won contracts to provide cloud computing services to China Telecom.
Under the deal, ZTE will supply its proprietary iECS server virtualization software and iRAI cloud desktop system to the Chinese telco, for both internal use and as an offering for enterprise customers.
iECS combines the ZEN and KVM virtualization engines with ZTE’s operating system technology and management software to provide virtualization capabilities.
iRAI supports data traffic redirection and virtual applications. The desktop cloud system also supports multiple desktops for a single user, and is compatible with most mainstream terminals, ZTE said.
Hu Wenwen, ZTE’s marketing manager of cloud computing, said the deal “breaks the traditional monopoly of overseas vendors”, as it is first time that China Telecom will deploy its cloud computing solution at a group level.
Hu said ZTE has worked with China Telecom’s provincial branches on many cloud computing projects, and both companies have been long-term partners in research and development of cloud computing technologies.
ZTE contributed to the standardization and planning of China Telecom’s cloud computing technologies, including PASS, and the two companies are collaborating to develop cloud computing standards under the direction of ITU-T.
Apart from China Telecom, Hu said ZTE has also supplied server virtualization solutions, resource pool operation management system and desktop virtualization solution to China Mobile. Its desktop virtualization solution has also been deployed by China Unicom in 11 provincial operations, covering business halls, offices, call centers and IT network maintenance scenes.
