ZTE said it has won new deals from China Telecom to increase capacity and optimize the CDMA operator’s 3G network.

The company said Thursday it has received the majority of new contracts in phase 1 of China Telecom’s 2013 CDMA network procurement program.

Financial terms of the deals were not revealed.

ZTE, which has a 32.6% share in the global CDMA market, will supply more than 30,000 units of SDR-based (software defined radio) distributed base stations, including the new-generation R8881 radio remote unit, said Fan Xiaobing, vice president of ZTE.

Fang said the SDR technology will help China Telecom migrate from a network architecture based on macro stations in metropolitan areas, to a more distributed architecture that effectively enhances indoor and rural area coverage.

ZTE will also supply a customized signaling solution to help China Telecom to overcome the issue of 3G signaling storm generated by the “always on” mobile applications such as WeChat.

China Telecom will also deploy ZTE’s NetMax network optimization software, Fang added.
