The San Francisco Chronicle reports that a new cellphone application could save your life: AT&T has introduced a technology that will allow Bluetooth enabled mobile phones to transfer heartbeat data from a heart monitor to a cardiologist.

The service, offered by MedNet Healthcare Technologies, allows AT&T customers within their roaming area to send data to a central monitoring center which then forward the information to their doctor.

The service is available for a monthly fee and doctors must be signed up to use it.

Voice service is also available through the service so cardiac professionals can quickly contact patients if their heart goes awry.

Next up - an app that senses when your bladder is nearly full and texts directions to the nearest restroom.
