Xiaomi has won a partial reprieve from its interim sales ban in India, as a second Chinese smartphone vendor – OnePlus – has been hit with a ban.
The Delhi High Court has cleared Xiaomi to continue importing its devices into the Indian market as long as they use Qualcomm processors, the Times of Indiasaid. This ruling is valid until January 8.
The Delhi court last week ordered Xiaomi not to sell, manufacture or sell its smartphones in India until February 5, when the court hears a smartphone infringement lawsuit filed by Ericsson.
Customs officials were told to block the import of Xiaomi smartphones and other devices that may infringe on Ericsson's patents.
Prior to last week's ban, Xiaomi was selling two devices in the country, one of which uses a Qualcomm chipset. The second, which uses a MediaTek processor, will remain banned.
Another Xiaomi smartphone powered by a Qualcomm processor, the Redmi Note 4G, is due to launch later this month.
This launch can now take place unhindered, but without further court intervention, Xiaomi and retail partner Flipkart will be banned from selling the new devices from January 9, at least until the hearing takes place the following month.
