The Wi-Fi Alliance announced that it has certified some 3,000 products in the last 6 years, the most recent of which is a Wi-Fi/cellular phone from handset maker Motorola.
'It's a great example of how Wi-Fi is moving from massive success in notebooks with probably 90% of the market using Wi-Fi to other categories of products,' Frank Hanzlik, managing director of the Wi-Fi Alliance said.

Hanzlik said the latest product is the 3000th since March of 2000, when certification testing began.
'If a product lasts a year, that's a long time,' he added, noting that he does not want to speculate on the actual number of Wi-FI products available in the market today.
Computers will likely be using Wi-Fi for a long time to come, but the Alliance wants to stay relevant by continuing to test for important new features as well as testing new products, he said.
